I love this bento box. It holds a ton of food, and the elastic strap keeps the box closed to avoid spillage. The upper tier includes a plastic lid that makes it perfect for rice.
I thought the box was pretty in the picture, but it was a whole different story when I saw it in person. It's positively gorgeous! The black plastic is a perfect background for the firefly design. The fireflies are slightly raised and a sparkly gold color. The backdrop is a bit more orangey and lustrous as well. I was very impressed.
If you're looking for a traditional-style bento box, this is a great choice. Keep in mind that it's best for food that you can eat at room temperature, as the bottom tier does not seal. Very easy to clean and a great size to keep in your bag.

This Bento Box is very high quality and can store enough food for a light lunch or a snack, but do be aware, it's smaller than is may seem in the picture!
It works very well for food such as rice and some of the recipes found in the bento box cookbooks, but for the stereotypical American foods (sandwich, burger, hot dogs, etc), you may need to cut them up in order for them to fit.
I'm not saying this is a bad lunch box. I love it, and it's very interesting, but if you have a big appetite or don't know any recipes that would fit the dimensions of the box (5.6 x 4 x 3 inches according to the description) then I may lean more toward the traditional American lunch box.
As you may tell, I live in America, so this may be perfect for the culture from where it came, I'm just expressing an American's point of view on this bento box :)

I simply adore this bento box. The laquer finish on the box has such a beautiful gleam. Gold relief etchings on matte black flecks on glossy black backdrop. Absolutely superb, and reminiscent of the laquer art of 16th century China and other parts of Asia that later adopted the practice.
As for its functionality, the box is a perfect size for cut up meals meant to be eaten with rice and chopsticks. If you are planning on eating a hot dog or a whole uncut club sandwich for most packaged meals, then this is not the box for you. However, if you already enjoy eating meals such as savory dumplings or chunks of savory goods with rice and portions of vegetables, then this is the equipment for you. This bento box comes with two tiers, one of which can be removed and washed in the dishwasher. The more decorative outer box should never go in the dishwasher, and should be washed by hand (but seeing as this isn't cooking equipment, it will rinse clean quickly and easily). Don't let your eyes fool you. This box is most definately roomy enough for a "hungry man size meal", if you know what kind of meal to pack and how to pack it (pre-cut, and section off the different types of food items included in the meal). The belt (or "strap") that comes with the box is more of a fabric-type elastic band, similar to a hair band, and it keeps the lid on very snugly. As it is, the lid does not allow drips and spills even without the band, but it is a nice added security for transportation purposes.
Personally, I have been searching quite some time for an inexpensive and functional, yet attractive and portable (not too big) bento box. This bento box fits the bill.
*** It travels best with a bento box bag (such as the kind from Hakoya company).
