I have to agree with Chrysippus about this bento. If you take sushi and rice and veggies- this box is perfect. I can get several pieces of home-made sushi into the box, and I tend to fill the spaces around the sushi with edamame- which looks really pretty. Then I may fill the other compartment with a pad of rice, and some veggies. There is more than enough food there for me- and I'm an average size person, but I admit, I'm not looking to eat the equivalent of a McDonalds large size meal (for example) because I really don't want that much food. A bento lunch fills me up. If you like a very large lunch (or want this to carry something like a club sandwich) this is not the lunch box for you. I love to have my lunch arranged aesthetically, and this little box inspires me to spend the time packing it just so- so I think I eat less, and better quality, and I probably eat more mindfully as well- because I really do enjoy the aesthetics of my lunch, even if I am just eating at my desk.

Positives. The appearance is elegant. The shiny blackness of the bento looks fancier than the plastic that it is. The understated, somewhat abstract design of the hare running in a field under the moon is nice and not too cute -- important for those of us not wishing to send the wrong message. It comes with a red elastic belt (not pictured) to keep the bento together. This is a stylish way to bring lunch to office or school, and the bento can be microwaved. The shape also matters. It is not a flat box, but with two tiers it is more vertical, which means it can fit int your bag vertically more easily, which means less chance of spillage. It is small and space-saving.
Negatives. (1) The inside lid for the top tier stains easily. (2) Some other bento at this price range comes with chopsticks (sometimes in a built-in compartment) and a bag. (3) It is really not the cheapest bento, and hardly the biggest bang for the buck.
Potential issues. (1) The bento may be a bit small for medium to large men/women. Most other adults who lead a sedentary life can get away by packing every cubic inch very tightly with "dense" food (i.e., no penne with all that space in the middle). The upside is eating sensible portions. (2) The top lid is not airtight, so don't expect to put soup in there. The bottom tier is designed for rice, hence it is not airtight. If your lunch is analogous to the Japanese formula in some way, you're fine. (3) I suspect the dishwasher might eventually scratch off the design.

For me this bento is the perfect size, I've measured it out to hold about 470 mL, which is fairly small by bento standards. Everything there is to say has been said in other reviews, but if you want to know how to best shop for a bento, here's a good site to determine the right size for you: [...] Generally speaking, though, the amount of calories you want per meal should be about the same as the number of mL the bento holds. For example, 470 mL is good for approximately 470 calories, so on and so forth.
